Medicaid Changes

In 2025, the federal government changed the eligibility criteria for Medicaid. Now, fewer people qualify for Medicaid, and if you do qualify you must comply with work requirements to keep your coverage. You now need to work, volunteer, or attend school for a minimum of 80 hours a month.

Beginning October 1, 2026, many lawfully present immigrants will no longer qualify for Medicaid.

The following groups will remain eligible:

  • Lawful Permanent Residents (green card holders)

  • Cuban-Haitian entrants

  • COFA migrants

  • Lawfully residing children under age 21 and;

  • Pregnant women
