People in New Mexico are losing SNAP (food assistance) as Republican Megabill is implemented

Formerly a federal program, SNAP federal funding will be be shifted more to

states. SNAP eligibility is now tied to meeting work requirements and more frequent

reporting by recipients.


The outcomes in it first year:

  • 4 million people have lost their access to food benefits

  • 1.5 million children have lost food benefits

  • In New Mexico, in first 10 months since enactment, 18,061 New Mexicans lost their SNAP benefits including 10,060 children who lost their food benefits.

  • Therefore, the majority often losing their SNAP benefits are CHILDREN. See article’s state tracker.

  • Many people only discover the work requirement for SNAP eligibility when they

    try to renew for SNAP.

  • Congressional Republicans promised their bill’s SNAP provisions would have no

    impact on children.

  • Food is health and for children, hunger in childhood can create lifelong health
