Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham calls October 1 Special Session

New Mexico Governor Lujan Grisham has called a special legislative session beginning October 1st, 2025. Usually the legislature only meets for one short period in the spring, but when there is an urgent need a special session can be called - this time, the NM legislature is being asked to handle major federal cuts to healthcare, food assistance, and public media. They will likely look to redirect state funding to these programs to fill the gaps and keep all these benefits available to the populations who need them. Health Action will especially be interested in fully funding Medicaid, Marketplace (BeWell) coverage, rural healthcare, and SNAP benefits.
