Small Law Firms, Small Coverage

Clarissa Constitution, Albuquerque created on Thu October 10, 2013

My name is Clarissa and right now I am trying to start a business as an artist. Right now um, all I have is UNM cares and Indian Health Services. Which is better than it would be if I didn’t qualify for IHS. My husband actually is working for a small law firm, he has health care coverage through his job. And the job I had before this, I had health care coverage, for both of us. My job before this was actually as a social worker for Head Start. So when I stopped working, I had a good idea of what was available. But, its rough. Cuz like, I have…my primary care doctor is through First Nations, and she’s really good, but I have to wait…like I had an endocrinology appointment that I had to wait probably 8 months for here at UNM. And even then trying to get my primary care doctor (she’s a nurse practitioner which is actually fine with me) but trying to get my primary care doctor and the endocrinologist to coordinate together to see what else they can do besides say, “Oh, well you just kind of have to suck it up” is really hard.
