An Insider Look on a local ISD Office

Selena Marroquin-Hardy Rio Rancho, Albuquerque created on Mon October 21, 2013

I spoke with Maria the intake supervisor (very nice lady!). She informed me they have not received training and their computer systems have not been updated to do intake or determination (that won't happen until January). They are telling people about it but there were not any flyers or information around the building about the expansion. Maria told me they are taking people's applications but they really can't help with determination or anything- she didn't even really know the details about who qualifies for what. The office does have the paper applications. They said a few other offices around the state already have the computer systems and training but Albuquerque always seems to be last since they are so big. If a person walks into this office they would be handed the HSD FAQ Sheet and the paper application. I asked if they would still enroll the individual in the family planing but they said not unless those people asked for it. They said that if people apply at YesNM online their applications will be processed sooner.

It is very disheartening that the individuals working in the ISD offices have not been given the tools to help individuals.

I gave them the checklist and they recommend we touch base with the communications director for the state Matt Keunicott 505-827-6236

I also called a few of the offices around the city to see the type of experience and each call was put on hold for a very long time (I ended up hanging up before it was answered) there was an option for the Medicaid number but I wanted to see what they would say in response to HIX questions.
